Infants to Toddlers

Infants to Young Toddlers

Items Needed for Infants & Toddlers:

  • You must supply your child with at least a week’s supply of diapers, wipes, change of clothes, diaper rash ointment, and a plastic shoe box for a change of clothes (make sure everything is labeled).
  • Please do not bring in a diaper bag; put items in your child’s box and/or cubby.
  • All bottles, blankets, bibs, and diapers should be labeled with your child’s name.
  • Please review your child’s meal schedule with the Infant Room staff.

Our focus is not only on education but also on respect for one another and respect for property. Our disciplinary measures always begin with a warning.  The next step is “time out” (one minute per year of age), then we follow up with a discussion to explain why that behavior was inappropriate. If the behavior continues, we separate the child from the other children with a quiet activity (books, puzzles, etc.). Children are never punished for lapses in toilet training or for accidents (spilled milk, etc.).

We provide a variety of age-appropriate toys and activities that will not only entertain your child, but also offer opportunities to learn additional skills.

When the weather cooperates we will spend time outdoors, ranging from a brief walk when it is fairly cool to an hour or two in the summer.

All children under the age of 5 are required by state law to have a rest time. Children who wake up before the rest will be guided in finding a quiet time activity to engage in that will not disturb any sleeping children.

Biting is one of our biggest challenges. We use a strong response of “NO” when a child bites another child. We separate him/her from the group for a short period (minutes equal to his/her age) with the teacher reinforcing that biting is unacceptable. We make every effort to trail a biting child so that we can redirect them before they have a chance to bite again.
